A Parkway South Middle School teacher was charged with statutory rape of a student.

Ronald Smith, 42, also coaches junior varsity girls basketball at Parkway South High School and is alleged to have had sexual contact with a high school student.  According to authorities, that contact between Smith and the student spanned multiple years beginning in 2015.

Smith and the student first had sexual contact, described by police as sodomy, between August 1, 2015 and December 25, 2015 when the student was less than 17 years old. Also, at some point between August 1, 2015 and June 1, 2016, Smith reportedly had sexual contact with the student at Parkway South Middle School.

Court documents also state Smith and the student had sexual intercourse between May 1 and November 1 of 2017.

School officials relieved Smith of his teaching and coaching duties and placed him on administrative leave immediately after they were notified of the allegations. They then contacted St. Louis County Police.
