Two Metro East women were charged Thursday with shoplifting from the West County Center and trying to run over a police officer and security chief with their car in an attempt to get the F out of there.

Ariana Jones (right), 22, of East St. Louis, and Renisha Moore (left), 23 of Madison, were charged with two counts of second-degree assault and felony stealing of at least $750. Bail for each was set at $100,000.

According to court documents, police suspected the women of shoplifting yesterday from a JCPenney and stopped them outside West County Center. Jones, the driver, let an officer search their car but then she and Moore put the car in drive and tried to take off.

“Co-defendant Jones, with defendant Moore in the vehicle, put the car into drive and drove straight at officer and head of security,” charges say. The officer, Des Peres Det. Lt. Dale Fiala, jumped out of the way but the car “clipped” the leg of the head of security.

The car crashed after the sad attempt to get away, and both women were arrested.
