A U-City man was charged Friday with assault from getting stupid with a Webster Groves officer the night before.

Enzie Walton Jr., 29, of the 7000 block of Dover Court in University City, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, resisting arrest and unlawful gun possession. Bail for Walton was set at $150,000 cash.

Two Webster police officers were on patrol in Ivory Crockett Park, where there have been recent concerns about drug dealers doing what they do best, sitting in their cars trying to look as cool as possible.

At 8:15 p.m., the officers came up on a car in the park and approached the front passenger, who was 21, as part of a narcotics-related investigation.

As one officer removed the man from the car and handcuffed him, Walton, got in the driver’s seat, ignoring an officer’s command to stop. The other officer saw a gun near Walton, and struggled with him as the car was moving.

Walton’s gun was shot during the incident, hitting him in the lower extremity. The fleeing car struck the other man outside the car, really F-ing him up. Police eventually gained control of the weapon and arrested the man.

The man hit by the car was taken a local hospital where he was listed as in stable condition. The man who was shot was in stable condition and was expected to survive.
