Man arrested after robbing Central West End ice cream shop & punching employee

Authorities arrested a 52-year-old man who robbed a Central West End ice cream shop and attacked an employee Tuesday.

Police said Rodney Darnell Gardner of St. Louis walked into Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and demanded cash from the cashier. After the employee refused, Gardner started to punch her in the face repeatedly.

After the attack, Gardner fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

Officers located Gardner hiding near Kingshighway Blvd and McPherson Ave and took him into custody after a short foot pursuit.

Gardner was charged with one count of second degree robbery, one count of assault and resisting arrest.  This was not this piece of shits first robbery charge.  In 2016 he was also charged with robbery 1st degree.
