Police said that a St. Louis man twice fired a gun at city police officers Wednesday night and is now looking at facing assault charges.

Gregory Shegog, 60, of the 4400 block of Ashland Avenue, was charged Thursday with four counts of first-degree assault, four counts of armed criminal action and one count of unlawful gun possession.

Police got a 911 call and responded to the 3000 block of Chippewa Street to a call for gunshots fired at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.  Police officers arrived, saw Shegog with a gun and ordered him to drop it. Instead, he fired it at them. Police fired back but missed.

Shegog ran in a home on the block, came back out and shot his gun but it misfired.  He ran back inside, prompting a standoff that ended peacefully with his arrest.

Bail for Shegog was set at $200,000 cash-only.
